ARTISTIC POLICY Brazilian-born Jean Abreu is one of the UK’s most exciting young dancer/ choreographers whose distinct and individual choreographic language merges his Latin dance roots and his British contemporary dance training. With a number of choreography awards to his credit including The Jerwood Award and The Place Prize commission Jean has earned great support nationally and internationally for his work.

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS Raizes Portuguese for ‘roots’, Raizes is a powerful, evocative journey into the heart of Brazilian culture. Featuring live music, Brazilian Latin dance and capoeira, this programme explores the history and rituals of Brazilian dance, music and poetry from a contemporary perspective. Fijis / Urge / O Lungo Drom A triple bill including Fijis, a trio inspired by the unique cultures and rituals of the Polynesian Islands; Urge, a duet commissioned for The Place Prize 2004; and O Lungo Drom, a solo exploring ideas of migration and sense of belonging. (Fijis 27 mins, Urge 17 mins, O Lungo Drom 20 mins, 3 on stage, 5 on the road)
