ARTISTIC POLICY
Gary Stevens is an artist who creates performances and video installations, working with a wide range of visual artists and performers from diverse backgrounds. His solo and ensemble works have been presented internationally in gallery, theatre and dance contexts, festivals and public spaces.

'Stevens' installation achieves meaningfulness without seeming to aim for it… Sculptors, film-makers, performers and realist painters (on the show's evidence, Stevens' sensibility is a combination of these) will come flocking from all directions to feast eyes on (it).' Art Review 2003

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Wake Up/Hide Two interactive large-screen companion video projections in which clusters of performers inhabit a domestic interior and the fitful, unstable images seem uncomfortable with the thought of being seen.

Slow Life A five-screen video projection with sound. Unbroken, real-time shots of domestic scenes explore innocuous, seemingly insignificant events. Everyday incidents are played very slowly so that momentary encounters between the performers are extended to become intimate exchanges.

FUTURE PRODUCTION
Ape Drawing on previous live works Name and Animal and performed by Stevens and two others, this will be a study on behaviour that is not human as they secretly observe and then assimilate each other.

WRAP-AROUND ACTIVITY
Available to teach workshops/residencies in association with performances. Gary Stevens frequently responds to commissions and runs workshops with local performers leading to public presentations of new works/or recreating existing work, etc.
