ARTISTIC POLICY Mixing film, cartoon, automata and puppetry, wild mechanical sets and surreal comedy, Forkbeard Fantasy’s celebrated trademark is the fusion of live stage action with film sequences, where the actors cross the celluloid divide. The company has projected film onto anything from slowly inflating weather balloons to full-blown sails. Forkbeard Fantasy has been delighting audiences around the world for over thirty years with its eye-boggling comic shows, multiple film projections, grotesque characters, hilarious puppetry and sets.
REVIEW EXTRACTS 'I staggered out from seeing The Fall of the House of Usherettes… I had seen a series of special effects which beat anything in any film I had seen recently and yet added up to a wonderful evening of theatre... This is lunacy at its most beautifully organized.' Miles Kington
'The vivid, to-the-hilt caricatures, combined with the cleverness of their film, animation and projection trickery, made for a consummate, side-splitting treat.' The Sunday Times (The Fall of the House of Usherettes)
'Consummately skilful and hilariously funny company... hugely, breathtakingly dramatic.' The Irish Times (The Fall of the House of Usherettes)
CURRENT PRODUCTION The Fall of the House of Usherettes Loosely adapted from Edgar Allan Poe’s gothic horror of a not dissimilar title, this is Forkbeard’s tribute to the madness, creative energy and exhilaration that accompanied the first days of celluloid entertainment. Hammer Horror mixes with the cine-magic of Melies, father of film fantasy. In The Fall of the House of Usherettes, that fragile membrane between film and reality, ‘the celluloid divide’, is exposed to ever more ludicrous extremes. (90 mins, no interval)
FUTURE PRODUCTION Invisible Bonfires Forkbeard’s new show based on the theme of climate change. Available from autumn 2007.
