ARTISTIC POLICY A theatre for new and emerging work focusing on diverse young audiences and participants aged 13–30. Work can involve a mix of drama, poetry, music, dance, physical theatre, multi-media and visual arts to reflect the urban multi-cultural mix of Manchester.
REVIEW EXTRACTS 'The only theatre in the country where under-30s beg to be let in rather than scream to be let out.' The Guardian
'I Loved I Hear Voices. I loved the questions it raised and the way it dealt with them – bang on and physical. The characters balanced around each other with the skill of dancers. It was a visual and aural treat.' Lit Up Festival
'The way [is] clear for Contact to continue its quest to tell stories in new ways to new audiences.' The Guardian
FUTURE PRODUCTIONS I Hear Voices A meditation on the voices within – poetic inspiration or madness? Three exciting young Manchester performance poets explore how voices in the head have inspired and confused throughout history and today, in a dark, humorous and physical performance combining poetry, rap, beat-boxing and movement. (50 mins, 4 on stage, 6 on road)
For All The Wrong Reasons Commissioned by Manchester International Festival, this co-production with Victoria (Belgium) combines very different performers to create a boldly staged exploration of communication and truth and how often we fail to manage either, translating the absurdity of life, the clichés and details of humanity into grotesque abstraction. (Duration tbc, 9 on stage, 12 on the road)
WRAP-AROUND ACTIVITY Workshops (including artist development workshops and a range of creative work with young people), masterclasses, after-show chat-backs.
RECENT INTERNATIONAL WORK 2006 Australia (Skid 180), Contacting The World International festival of youth theatre involving Brazil, India, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Africa and the Philippines.
TOURING AVAILABILITY I Hear Voices from January 2007. For All The Wrong Reasons from summer 2007.
