ARTISTIC POLICY Cardboard Citizens has forged a reputation for innovative, interactive, social theatre. It is the only UK professional theatre company working with homeless and ex-homeless people, including refugees and asylum seekers, as creators, participants and audience. The stories this experience gives access to, together with the company’s roots in forum theatre, yield a distinctive theatricality and an authentic aesthetic.
REVIEW EXTRACTS 'It has the buzz of a true theatrical event.' The Times (Pericles)
'It treats the audience to such tempestuous images – both Shakespearean and modern day – that they burn indelibly onto the brain and heart.' The Evening Standard (Pericles)
'This is one of the best productions of Büchner’s classic un-finished play I have ever seen. Why is this? Because company and play are so perfectly matched.' The Guardian (Woyzeck)
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS Timon of Athens By William Shakespeare. Created for the RSC Complete Works Festival. Adapted by Sarah Woods and Adrian Jackson. Shakespeare’s rarely performed play is set within the context of a motivational management training event. (150 mins, 11 on stage, 17 on the road)
Woyzeck Continuing Cardboard Citizens’ exploration of the down-and-out cast in classic literature, the company presents its interpretation of Georg Büchner’s modernist masterpiece. (90 mins, 6 on the road)
