ARTISTIC POLICY
Benji Reid – stand-up tragedian and body-popping comic with a b-boy style – produces work of pathos and comedy, poignancy and pace. He layers contemporary vision with classic inspiration to create highly energised, emotionally conflicting physical theatre. Reid creates work that both challenges and draws in audiences, bridging the gap between theatre and street art forms.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
'This is a poet trapped inside the body of a dancer. It’s a killer combination.' Daily Telegraph, Australia

'This is more than entertainment and this was more than energetic farce.' The Guardian

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
13 Mics Accompanied by two musicians and a DJ, the show travels from bebop to hip hop and all stops in between. With the high energy of freestyle popping, text and rap, Reid creates a montage of the 20th century, working as a human sampler to create 21st century hip hop. (40 mins, 6 on the road)

B like water Reid jumps from poetry to body-popping and back again in a heart-stirring exploration of the role that heroes play in our lives. (20 mins, 6 on the road, production requires Reid to be semi-suspended on a bungee cord)

The Pugilist Follows the journeys of two men striving for freedom. Barry is a tired boxer slipping towards retirement. Can he come to terms with who he is without his celebrity status, or will he become a nobody, like all the opponents he sent sprawling to the canvas? (25 mins, 1 on stage, 3 on the road)

The Holiday This dark and instinctive proposition on escapism is both funny and harrowing. (15–20 mins, 1 on stage, 3 on the road)

Style 4 Free Improvisation inspired by hip hop and jazz, danced like a slapstick puppet creating text over muffled beats. (15 mins, 1 on stage, 3 on the road)

RECENT INTERNATIONAL WORK
2005 USA, Canada (13 Mics, Style 4 Free)
2004 France, Italy, Netherlands (13 Mics)
