ARTISTIC POLICY Peepolykus (pronounced ‘people-like-us’) creates devised comic theatre that attracts both regular and irregular theatre goers. Peepolykus rapidly established an international reputation for making people laugh. The company’s work combines anarchic verbal comedy with slapstick and sublimely ridiculous clowning. It is physically strong, visually inventive, and suitable for all ages. The company’s shows are highly entertaining and accessible (some can be performed in Spanish if required). The company are now starting to develop work outside traditional theatre venues, especially involving communities and young people.
REVIEW EXTRACTS In comedy terms, what Peepolykus can do is seemingly limitless. Variety The West End has too few funny shows for us not to treasure this offering from Peepolykus. London Evening Standard I have nothing to declare, but Spyski’s genius. 6 stars Time Out
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS SPYSKI (or The Importance of Being Earnest) The Peepolykus cast members (who are rehearsing for a performance of the Oscar Wilde classic, The Importance of Being Earnest), have stumbled across a highly secretive government plot – a plot that stands to erode civil liberties on a terrifying global level. The cast risk all to expose the truth to the world. The results deconstruct and examine the immersive power of theatre in two laughter packed hours of farce, love and espionage. 2 hrs, including interval. 9 on the road, 5 cast, 4 crew All In The Timing Written by award-winning American writer David Ives whose one-act comedies present a world where chimps attempt to write Shakespeare, new languages are made up on the spot, faux pas can be edited from conversations and Trotsky can live out multiple versions of his last day. Expect the unexpected! 80 mins, 4 on the road, 3 cast, 1 crew Let The Donkey Go Reconstruction of the Rajmanistan Secret Service’s most celebrated case to date...Slapstick, songs, astounding dexterity with digestive biscuits...and absolutely no donkey! Award-winning show that has toured to over 20 countries since 1996. 75 mins, 4 on the road, 3 on stage, 1 crew
FUTURE PRODUCTIONS Peepolykus are currently working on large scale site-specific, community based collaborations, youth theatre projects and an adaptation with the Israeli writer Etgar Keret.
