Rasa produces heart warming stories that unite both South Asian and Western theatre, exploring complex cultural and social issues to show that every personal story, cultural ritual or unfamiliar history has universal resonance.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Rarely have I seen such talent or such intimate contact with the pulse of this nation.’ The Independent (Curry Tales)

‘Delicious… comic, powerfully moving… an absorbing play.’ The Times (Curry Tales)

‘A tremendous performance, intense and energised.’ The Stage (Shades of Brown)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Curry Tales A worldwide tour of Britain’s favourite food as six cooks reveal intimate stories whilst cooking their own special sauces to share with the audience. From India to England, Trinidad to Malaysia, curry is used to explore identity, nationalism, fertility and hunger. Razor-sharp comic observation and moving characterisation in a mix of flavours to please all. (80 mins, no interval, 1 on stage, 4 on the road, suitable for ages 12+.)

Shades of Brown How is one person’s healthy glow another’s social stigma? This one-woman show about skin exposes colour prejudices within people’s own communities. From South African albino to skin-bleaching Indian bride, Rani Moorthy transforms into funny and poignant characters who cannot hide, or hide from their skin. (60 mins with no interval, 1 on stage, 2 on the road, suitable for ages 12+.)

WRAP-AROUND
Post-show discussions with writer and performer. Workshops are available that explore the themes of the plays and their creative process, relating these to the individual participants. Participants are encouraged to explore their own experiences, identities and memories to unlock their own creativity. The workshops are based around creative writing, storytelling and drama. They are suitable for non-professional groups aged 12+, and will be tailored to meet the needs of the specific groups (e.g. mixed abilities, languages, non-drama participants).
