ARTISTIC POLICY
Malika Booker is a spellbinding writer, performer and storyteller from the UK, Grenada, Guayana and Trinidad. She has been enthralling audiences for 18 years with her searing character monologues and beguiling poetry. Her sensuous performances are moving and funny. They creep up and punch you in the stomach when you least expect it.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Charming... well judged… lingers like a reproachful ghost in our minds.’ Lyn Gardner, The Guardian (Unplanned)

‘Remarkable... intriguingly unclear where reminiscence ends and magic realism begins.’ The Times (Unplanned)

‘Booker is a consummate storyteller, full of confident charm.’ Time Out (Absolution)

CURRENT PRODUCTION
Unplanned A Pandora’s box of spells and secrets. It is a warmly intimate, theatrical treat about fertility, pregnancy and the astonishing stories we keep buried in our toes. (60 mins, no interval, 1 on stage, 1–2 on the road.)

WRAP-AROUND
Malika Booker is a sought-after educator and creative writing course leader. She has worked with and tutored young people and now co-runs Malika’s Kitchen, a writers’ collective, based in London and Chicago, offering weekly writers’ surgeries alongside publishing anthologies and showcasing new work. Unplanned has an accompanying educational programme ideal for secondary schools, women’s groups and parents’ groups, using creative writing to explore issues around fertility, sexual health, childbirth and identity. Other masterclasses include work on character monologue, storytelling and writing/ performing from autobiographical moments and news stories. These are designed for artists at any stage of development.
