‘Hughes’s approach is to slip neatly under the skin of a dance and make it his own.’ The Guardian
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS Imploded: Une Rêverie Romantique A contemporary study by Tanja Liedtke of Les Sylphides, the first abstract classical ballet without narrative structure or defined characters. Dynamic, extreme, athletic, danced on a magical mirrored floor. (16 mins, 5 on stage, 7 on the road.)
[4:Freeze-Frame] By Rafael Bonachela. A hybrid of classical and contemporary technique, this work is abstract and relentless whilst tender and precise. (22 mins, 5 on stage, 7 on the road.)
L’apres Midi d’un Faune Solo work for David Hughes by Siobhan Davies. A modern take on Nijinsky’s Les après midi du une faun (dancer). A study of stillness, the solo is technically controlled and soft. (10 mins, 1 on stage, 3 on the road.)
Matt’s Lost His Groove Duet by David Hughes – a game between two men, one Harley Davidson and a scooter! It is a playful, cheeky and tender work incorporating breakdance and contemporary disciplines. (10 mins, 2 on stage, 3 on the road.)
FUTURE PRODUCTION New Work (untitled) By Scottish theatre maker, Al Seed, being created early 2008, using abstraction, animal movement-vocabularies and playfulness to expose some of the mechanics of our everyday physical lives and to explore the discourses on hierarchy, power, gender, and belief-systems that they raise.
WRAP-AROUND David Hughes Dance is fully committed to the training of new dancers and offers apprenticeships that will nurture and develop young talent. The company runs comprehensive outreach and education programmes and residencies closely connected to the repertoire.
