Richard Frostick

Richard Frostick studied piano and singing at the Royal Academy of Music and has an MA in Music Education from London University Institute of Education. He works extensively in the UK and across Europe as a freelance education consultant and project animateur. He is also an advisor to the BBC and the British Council on music education matters.

Richard has worked on many education projects with leading British orchestras and has an international reputation for this work. From 1999-2001 he worked on a ground-breaking series of workshops on Composing in the Classroom, working with teachers, students, pupils and professional musicians in Croatia. This culminated in a performance of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' The Turn of the Tide at the Zagreb Biennale with the Croatian Radio and TV Orchestra and 400 children. He is currently working on a similar project in Portugal with Casa da Musica and the Orquestra Nacional da Porto. As part of this, Portuguese composer Fernando Lapa has been commissioned to write a piece for children and orchestra for the opening season of the new Casa da Musica in Porto in March 2005.

In June 2003 Richard worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and composer John Adams on the BBC's first Proms Out and About concert at the Brixton Academy, London. His most recent work includes a choral project with South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela and Jazz Jamaica All Stars and a project for The Mayor's Thames Festival.

The Islington Music Centre, which Richard founded and directs, is well known for its innovative approach to music education and its high musical standards, and has been featured in a major TV documentary, Don't Stop the Music.
