Music Education Homepage
Music Theatre Wales

Music Theatre Wales (MTW) has a long track record in devising and running innovative education projects in schools (including special schools), community centres, arts centres and prisons. Projects have included full participation in MTW's professional productions by individual young artists (solo singing and acting roles in The Roswell Incident by John Hardy and Jane Eyre by Michael Berkeley) and also group participation (as actors and dancers in The Soldiers Tale by Stravinsky).

All productions have an accompanying education package which is offered to each of the tour venues. This usually includes: a schools/university workshop where participants are given the opportunity to develop their music and theatre skills, exercise their creativity and learn about the language and process of opera (in most cases projects are led by a composer and director, occasionally with a participating musician and/or writer); a pre-performance talk which provides audience members with a unique insight into the performance they are about to see (usually given by MTW’s Artistic Director and/or the composer himself; and a pre-performance presentation, similar to the pre-performance talks, but animated with excerpts from the opera (performed by members of the cast and ensemble) and related items of music and literature.
