LSO Discovery, the London Symphony Orchestra's education and community programme, was set up over fourteen years ago with the aim of bringing the orchestra's music to the widest possible audience, encouraging participation in music-making and offering opportunities to learn about the orchestra's repertoire and other music. LSO musicians work alongside people of all ages and abilities in a variety of creative music workshops, informal performances, masterclasses and training sessions.
LSO Discovery also aims to encourage new audiences, particularly young people, and organises daytime concerts for schools and families which offer a structured introduction to some of the greatest orchestral repertoire. The programme brings around thirty thousand people of all ages and backgrounds into contact with the LSO's music and musicians every year, in the Barbican Centre, schools, community centres, hospitals and also in its state of the art new home on Old Street, London EC1.
