Live Music Now was founded in 1977 by Yehudi Menuhin. He knew from his own experience that music transcends all barriers of language, illness and disability. For people whose lives are particularly challenging or stressful, a live performance of music brings immense pleasure as well as therapeutic and educational benefits.
The musicians on this scheme are richly rewarded by the spontaneous and dramatic response they receive from their audiences. They also enhance their skills and learn to communicate effectively with a vast range of different audiences. Musicians receive a fee and expenses for each performance.
Live Music Now has two principle aims: to promote the enjoyment and experience of live music amongst people who would not normally have access to it; and to assist gifted young professional musicians at the outset of their careers.
