BBC Philharmonic

The Education and Community Department takes its work all over the country and has initiated projects in numerous academic and community settings. The BBC Philharmonic hopes that its presence will enhance and enrich work already undertaken in schools, colleges, universities, specialist learning and care centres, hospitals and community centres.

Innovative and often challenging projects have been created for the Cheltenham, Chester and Orkney Festivals and the Proms in London, plus international work in Oman, Prague, Holland and Bahrain.

Thousands of people of all ages have attended the BBC Philharmonic's rehearsals in Studio 7 Manchester, whilst its Professional Access Scheme enables instrumentalists from music colleges to gain valuable training and performing experience with the orchestra.

Over the past five years 23,500 Year 9 students have taken part in the award winning Aiming High initiative in Stoke-on-Trent.

Musical Murder-Mysteries for children have been performed to thousands of Year 5, 6 & 7 pupils all over the North West and abroad.

Numerous projects have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and been seen on BBC television.
