Walberberg Seminar on Creative Writing
Walberberg, Germany: 23-26 January 2003

Chaired by Andrew Motion, the 2003 Seminar included UK writers Patience Agbabi, John Burnside, Jim Crace, Helen Dunmore and Ali Smith.

The Seminar attracts delegates from around Germany, including academics, students, translators, editors and literary journalists. This year's delegates also featured two graduates from the UEA Creative Writing course and creative writing students from Germany.

The 2002 Seminar, Creative Writing, Creative Reading, was chaired by Paul Muldoon, with Simon Armitage, Bernardine Evaristo, Andrew Motion, Glenn Patterson and Jane Rogers.

The first Walberberg Seminar was Chaired by Malcolm Bradbury in 1987 and writers who have taken part have included John Agard, A S Byatt, Marina Carr, Angela Carter, Amit Chaudhuri, Jim Crace, Fred D'Aguiar, Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill, Geoff Dyer, David Edgar, Alison Fell, James Fenton, John Fuller, Lavinia Greenlaw, Wilson Harris, Alan Hollinghurst, Richard Holmes, Robert Irwin, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jackie Kay, Ian McEwan, Bernard MacLaverty, Pauline Melville, Livi Michael, Blake Morrison, Paul Muldoon, Kathy Page, Tim Parks, Don Paterson, Caryl Phillips, Craig Raine, Salman Rushdie, Graham Swift, Marina Warner, Fay Weldon, Timberlake Wertenbaker, Nigel Williams. Previous Chairs have also included A S Byatt, Valentine Cunningham, Christopher Hope, Caryl Phillips, Michèle Roberts and Marina Warner.
