London Book Fair India Booklist

2007

This new British Book Industry Award, created in partnership with The London Book Fair, recognises the potential of an individual, aged between 25 and 35, working within a publishing house in any function (including owning one) to be a future leader of the sector in the UK and, indeed, internationally. Through character and drive this person will demonstrate entrepreneurship and the ability to promote publishing in the UK as well as a vision for the future of UK publishing.

The winner was announced at the British Book Industry Awards on the final night of The Booksellers Association conference in Harrogate on 1 May 2007. And the winner is:

Clare Christian from The Friday Project

The judges admired Clare’s focus and fluency; she shows a total commitment to her authors and gives individual attention to the needs of their books.

The names of the other finalists and the citations from the judges are given below:

Emma Barnes, Snowbooks
Emma impressed the judges by her professional, considered approach, and her commitment to building Snowbooks as a force in independent publishing.

Tom Chalmers, Legend Press
Tom brings enormous energy and freshness to publishing, combining this with drive and a rare attention to detail.

Emma Hayley, MetroMedia
The judges were greatly taken by Emma’s freshness of thinking and her refusal to be daunted by potential barriers.

Catherine Hunt, HarperCollins
Catherine combines an analytical approach with a commitment to putting the consumer at the centre of publishing.

Jon Wood, Orion
The judges were impressed by Jon’s grasp of the essentials of good publishing and his conscientious and persuasive approach.
