Literature Matters is our departmental newsletter that became an e-zine in January 2004. It is now published online with news about British Council events and publications including articles and interviews with authors. You can read previous online editions using the links below, along with extracts from the former printed magazine.

Autumn 2007: The Cambridge Seminar issue
Guests of the 30th Cambridge Seminar, held in July 2007, discuss various literary topics. Including Roger McGough, Maureen Freely and Sarah Dunant, as well as co-chair Damian Grant.

Autumn 2006: The Helsinki bookfair issue
This issue features an interview with children's book illustrator and author Tony Ross, plus weblogs written by novelists Marina Lewycka and Joolz Denby.

Spring 2006: The crime issue
Denise Mina explores the status of crime writing while Simon Brett and Nicholas Blincoe offer insights into how crime fiction came to be both revered as serious literary fiction and dismissed as light genre fare.

Autumn 2005: The sport issue
Including in-depth articles by poet Sarah Wardle, veteran sports writer Hunter Davies, novelist Tim Parks and many more.

Spring 2005: The young people's literature issue
In this issue writers including Michael Morpugo, Anne Fine, Melvin Burgess and Matt Whyman share their views and ideas on all that is happening in the world of children's literature.
