This multi-arts festival has some literary content. Featuring creative writing workshops, poetry, Peak District Writers' Forum, and the songs, stories and music of Derbyshire and the East Midlands.

BORDERS BOOK FESTIVAL
June 2008

A literary festival on the Scottish Borders. This year's festival will include appearences by; Val McDermid, Jackie Kay, Ian Rankin and Tom Conti. There will also be a full programme of events for children.

BROADSTAIRS DICKENS FESTIVAL
19 - 22 June 2008

A mixed arts family festival inspired by the works of Charles Dickens. Literature events include the Festival Play Hard Times, readings and talks. Other events include Victorian parades, cricket match, bathing parties, music hall entertainment, duels, melodramas and guided walks.

GRASSINGTON FESTIVAL

A general arts and music festival that includes some literary events. Poets John Hegley and Wendy Cope will be giving readings of their work and audiences will have the opportunity to contribute to a question and answer session. The former Tory Cabinet Minister Michael Portillo will also be sharing his experiences and answering probing questions from the public.

LONDON LITERATURE FESTIVAL

NEW WRITING TYPES

STOKEFEST
June 2008

The festival is held in Clissold Park, Hackney, and showcases a diverse range of local talent and creativity across various artforms. 2006's programme included Bob Boyton (the 'stoyteller extraordinaire'), comic poetry and readings of folk and children's stories.

WINCHESTER WRITERS' CONFERNCE AND BOOKFAIR
27 - 29 June 2008

Last year Jacqueline Wilson, OBE, Children's Laureate, gave the Plenary Address and lead an outstanding line-up of professional writers. poets, playwrights, producers, commissioning editors and literary agents to help aspiring and published writer to harness their creativity and to learn all -important technical and marketing skills during 10 mini courses, 20 workshops, 60 talks and seminars, 300 one-to-one appointments and four weeklong workshops.Topics included Editing the Final Draft,  development of characterisation, structure and plot, Fiction and Non-Fiction; Writing Marketable Children's Fiction and Non-Fiction,  Comic Writing, Writing for the Media, radio, televison screen and stage and Self-Publishing. Fifteen writing competitions are attached to this major Festival of Writing with 62 prizes and trophies awarded during the Writers' Awards Reception and Dinner. Writers may submit even if they are unable to attend.A Midnight Read for new writing and tours to Jane Austen's home, Winchester Cathedral, The Study Centre for Women's Literature, Chawton and the Southern Echo newspaper offices complete this popular event fo all writers.
