CHAPEL ALLERTON ARTS FESTIVAL
31 August - 6 September 2009

Last year the festival included a street party with live music, stalls, music, food, dance and drama.

EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE
7 – 31 August 2009

An open arts festival comprising over 1,500 events including children's shows, comedy and revue, dance and physical theatre, music, musicals and opera, talks, theatre and visual art. Within these areas are a few literary events.

EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is the largest celebration of the written word in the world. It gives the public the chance to debate, discuss, discover new horizons, take part in creative workshops and, of course, meet favourite and brand new authors.

NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD OF WALES
Swansea
1 – 8 August 2009

The Eisteddfod is a cultural, artistic festival; one of the largest perepetic festivals in Europe alternating between south and north Wales, attracting over 170,000 visitors, and 7,000 competitors. Although competition based, it is a plethora of different arts events - singing, literature, dance, theatre, rock music, art and craft exhibition along with sports elements, science and technology. All events and competitions on the Eisteddfod festival site are through the medium of Welsh but translation facilities are readily available.
