Animating Literature Seminar
27-29 July 2005, Kingston, Jamaica

This three-day workshop is aimed at British Council colleagues and external contacts in Latin America and the Caribbean interested in developing fresh approaches to literature programming. The seminar will involve around twenty participants from Jamaica, Trinidad, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, including arts, library information and teaching staff.

This is the fourth Animating Literature seminar run by British Council Literature department. Previous seminars have been held in Western Europe, South Asia and Russia and Eastern Europe and have all resulted in innovative literature activity across those regions.

The seminar will have a strong practical focus. It is designed to widen participants’ understanding and confidence in building and engaging audiences for reader-centred activity, and in identifying new ways of planning literature projects, linking them with libraries, other art forms, ICT and language teaching. It aims to broaden participants’ awareness of both world literature activity and the UK literature scene, giving them better access to UK literature networks and building partnerships.

The workshop will combine trainer-led sessions (with presentations and demonstrations) and practical group work for the participants. There will also be a lot of opportunities for exchanging experiences and ideas. At the end of the seminar there will be sessions on project planning to enable participants to develop project proposals based on the training. The workshop facilitators include Steve Dearden, Roger Robinson and Claudia Ferradas Moi.
