UK Drama Introduction by Michael Billington

The reputation of British theatre has always depended heavily on its living writers. But, looking at the situation in 2004, two things are immediately striking. One is the resurgence of ‘political theatre’: that is, plays that respond directly to public issues. The other welcome trend is the emergence of new voices: most especially writers from ethnic minorities, women writers and dramatists from Scotland and Northern Ireland. Obviously these categories sometimes overlap. But there is a sense that if a writer possesses a strikingly original voice, his or her work stands a good chance of being seen.

On this site you will find information about Radiophonics, and you will be able to listen to and read new stories from Uganda and Nigeria, the participating countries.

You will also be able to read about the history of the Crossing Borders distance learning creative writing scheme, access back issues of the Crossing Borders magazine and educational resources relevant to creative writing and writing for radio.
