Aspen Shortsfest
Aspen Shortsfest

It was a bumper British year at the 2006 Aspen Shortsfest with 16 British short films selected in the festival programme. The Festival is rapidly becoming one of the most prestigious short film festivals in North America and top winners at the festival will qualify for award consideration at the 2007 Academy Awards. Since 2003 eight winners have gone on to receive a Oscar nomination, including last years best short film winner, Wasp, which had it’s North American premier at Shortsfest. The British Council will be providing travel grants to some of the filmmakers so that they can attend the festival which began onon April 5, 2006.

Antonio's Breakfast, which tells the story of a young boy caring for his sick father in a London housing estate, picked up the Best Drama award at the festival. Other films collecting awards were Badgered (Best Short Short), Heavy Metal Drummer (AtomFilms Studio Awards) and Hibernation (Best Cinematography).

The films Lucky and Rajkumari received Special Jury Recognition for Outstanding Performance by a Child. Lucky also won the Youth Jury Prize which was selected by a panel of local Middle and High School students.
