elemental is an exhilarating fusion of the most exciting and innovative British visual theatre, circus, film, video and music brought together to create a thrilling auditory, sensory and visual world in which audiences will be immersed for three to four hours.

For Chalon dans la Rue, France's largest and most prestigious street theatre festival, elemental arts is creating a festival within a festival presenting the work of some of the UK's finest artists, including The Dream Engine and Blissbody. At the heart of this nocturnal world is a new show created especially by Forkbeard Fantasy, Company F.Z, Homelife and Bill Palmer from Avanti Display called La Boite Bleue. La Boite Bleue is a surreal and claustrophobic club, where a curious collection of performers are trapped by their own fears and obsessions, compelled to expose their own intimate stories, which unfold amongst the audience and fill the air above their heads.

Elemental Arts is a creative production company established to promote and produce exciting and unusual performance and arts events across a range of different disciplines. The event was co-comissioned by the British Council, Arts Council England and Chalon dans la Rue Festival.

The main devising process took place in the UK and Chalon sur Saone, France, in the first half of 2003 and was shared as a work-in-progress in London before its premiere. The elemental show stands alone or can be augmented by a number of additional local character performers to work within the audience, or additional shows depending on the scale of the project required and what funding is available. The work was created to change perceptions about UK outdoor and collaborative arts.

Core collaborating companies include:

Forkbeard Fantasy
A longstanding British visual theatre company specialising in absurd humour, giant puppetry and the integration of film and live action.

Company F.Z
An award-winning circus theatre company whose work features aerial performance with strong dance and physical theatre elements.

Homelife
