UK Package
600 Paint Cans in UK Pack Age

UK Pack Age explored the design of packaging for food and drink, computer hardware, clothing, gifts, life, death and music.

Curator Janice Kirkpatrick wrote: 'Packaging helps us to trade and communicate. Through packets, tins, boxes and bags we celebrate cultural richness and make our products visible and desirable in the market place'.

Crearns & Brown packaging by Wolff Olins

In UK Pack Age Graven Images used multiples of 148 packages to explore the design process from development and testing to the supermarket shelf. The packaging ranged from music and toiletries - Bjork 'Joga' CD by ME Company and French Connection Body cosmetics by Din Graphics - to the high street stores and own brands - Halfords Automotive Accessories by Harry Pierce at Lippa Pearce and Sainsbury's Microban Washing Up Liquid by Reed Design Consultants.

UK Pack Age launched in Paris in 1998 and visited the Netherlands, Israel and Cyprus. A duplicate of the exhibition visited Hong Kong, the Philippines and Thailand, funded by the Department of Trade & Industry, who ran a series of seminars alongside the tour.

UK Pack Age was researched and designed by Graven Images,  Glasgow.
