Among them are Graphic Thought Facility, the creators of the recent Design Museum identity and the design for the forthcoming Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, Kerr/Noble, a two-women team who design everything from promotions for Tony Kaye to books for the Architecture Foundation, and Abake, a team of Welsh, Swedish, French and Japanese origins whose work encompasses the worlds of music, fashion, art, architecture and dance. Britain's combination of thriving art schools and robust music and style industries has produced many of the biggest graphics stars of the last thirty years, designers such as Neville Brody, Peter Saville, Tomato and Jonathan Barnbrook. Britain's success in graphics depends on its unique art school environment and the existence of clients who understand the value of design. If both are maintained, the country's designers will play a significant role on the global scene for years to come. By Emily King |
