Here are some of the most exciting and innovative designers working in Britain today.

Tord Boontje
Working on the cusp of design and craft, Tord Boontje applies advanced technologies to create exquisite glassware, lighting and furniture, Born in Enschede in the Netherlands in 1968, he studied industrial design at Eindhoven and the Royal College of Art in London, where he now lives. As well as making limited edition pieces, such as his Blossom chandelier for Swarovski and a specially commissioned series of chandeliers for a mosque, he is working on commercial projects for Dartington Crystal and Habitat.

Daniel Brown
Multimedia designer Daniel Brown is applying his digital animations to the home in the Software Furniture project he will unveil at Great Brits. Born in Liverpool in 1977, Brown worked at Amaze, the pioneering CD-Rom design company, after leaving school and launched a personal web site, www.noodlebox.com.  Now based in London, he is involved with the SHOWstudio project and continues to show his own experimental work and that of other multimedia designers on the www.play-create.com web site.

Sam Buxton
The work of product designer Sam Buxton is dominated by experimentation with advanced materials and technologies notably in the development of the electroluminescent clock and table he will exhibit in Great Brits. Born in London in 1972, Buxton studied furniture design at Middlesex University and the Royal College of Art. He has since developed commercial projects for Kenzo, Habitat and Eurolounge, while producing the MIKRO stainless steel sculptures which unfold into miniature models of men and environments.

Mathias Bengtsson
By applying materials and processes usually used in heavy industry to chairs and chaises longues, Mathias Bengtsson produces sculptural furniture which is both visually arresting and technically innovative. Born in Copenhagen in 1971, he studied furniture design at the Danish Design School before moving to London to study at the Royal College of Art. Bengtsson will present the latest versions of his aluminium Slice furniture at Great Brits together with a new collection of spun carbon fibre chaises longues.
