New writing festival in belgium
July-November 2005

Beginning in July, British playwrights Enda Walsh, Mark Ravenhill, and Tim Crouch participate in a major new writing festival in Belgium. They will work alongside Belgian directors and actors to produce French and Flemish translations of their work to be presented as semi-staged readings at venues across Brussels, alongside a series of debates on UK theatre.

British playwriting is currently enjoying a renaissance, with new work from across the country that deals with some of the major social and political issues of the day. This project promises to establish strong, sustainable networks between UK playwrights and Belgian producing companies, and will provide a genuine opportunity to increase the profile of new UK theatre in Europe.

Performances take place between September and November at the Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg (KVS), Theatre Varia and Les Halles des Schaerbeek in Brussels, with a public discussion on the influences and themes of UK theatre at La Maison Bellone on 18 November.
