Broadcast and New Media Dance

The broadcast and new media dance scene in the UK draws its influences from many aspects of the contemporary culture of technology. It is becoming increasingly popular for dance performances to be integrated with rock music, computer technology, performance art or film, to be broadcast on camera, or to make use of video link-ups. Some British choreographers are using specially tailored dance programmes as aids to creating choreography (the digital figures on screen being infinitely tireless and much more easily manipulated than human bodies in a studio). Others create work to be viewed on line, via CD-roms or on large screens and these are frequently interactive, allowing viewers to play around with the finished product. All of these artists are trying, in different ways, to make sense of the influences they’ve inherited and of the influences which surround them.
