Bringing together a group of works by contemporary British artists, Supernova examines new tendencies in geometric abstraction. Work in the exhbition presents a variety of approaches to the genre, addressing issues from the purely formal to the socially engaged, from work referencing the links between early twentieth century abstract painting and modernist architecture to work which engages with contemporary media technology.
The exhibition comprises painting and screen-based works, and includes a number of large scale works purchased recently for the collection, such as Toby Paterson's imposing Festival Park, 2000; the first digital artwork to enter the British Council Collection: Dan Norton's interactive animation Ablab, and a major recent work by Jane and Louise Wilson.
Artists included in the exhibition are: Gary Hume, Keith Coventry, Liam Gillick, Sarah Morris, Jane and Louise Wilson, Toby Paterson, Richard Wright, Toby Ziegler, Dan Norton, Tony Swain, John Wood and Paul Harrison, Philip Allen and Haluk Akakce.
