This British Council touring exhibition focuses on new developments in British Art, demonstrating, as the title suggests, the depth, variety and diversity of work being made by younger artists in the UK today.
The works are drawn from the British Council Collection and includes painting, photography, video, sculpture and sound by artists who have made a significant contribution to recent developments in British art. No single direction is represented, as the works included represent a variety of approaches, concerns and realisations, with reference to discernible influences in 20th Century art movements such as conceptualism, minimalism and pop art. Some of the works were purchased especially for the exhibition whilst others have been selected from acquisitions made for the Collection over the past four years.
British Council Collection exhibitions often tour for long periods and to a great variety of venues. As the title suggests this exhibition is designed to alter, expand or shrink depending on the size and nature of the venue.
