Who We Are

Who is the British Council?

The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide. To find out more please see our corporate About Us section.

Who are Arts Group?

The British Council’s Arts Group consists of a team of professionals who mobilise the best of British creative talent to develop innovative programmes that will engage with thousands of people all over the world, drawing them into a closer relationship with the UK. Here is some more information about what we do.

Our work

This site cannot begin to show all the projects we have been involved in, although you can find many examples listed in our art form sections which will give a sense of how our arts and creative economy work relates to our strategic priorities.

The British Council does not offer support to arts and creative economy work that is unlikely to contribute to the development of cultural relations between the UK and the rest of the world. The scope of our work may give the impression that we have a vast budget for the arts, but this is not so. Support from businesses, governments, sponsors and partners is absolutely vital in allowing us to continue our work internationally.
