For the second year in succession, Art, Architecture & Design are working with 100% Design on their new venture outside the UK.

100% Design is the UK’s largest and most respected commercial interior design fair and the only exhibition of its kind where exhibitors are selected by jury. Last year it celebrated its 10th birthday in the UK and also launched its first satellite in Moscow.

Art, Architecture & Design and our colleagues overseas have organised visits to 100% Design for foreign journalists and other partners, but in 2004 our relationship became much more concrete. For the inaugural Moscow show we organised a three day workshop for Russian designers and architects on the theme of contemporary luxury; and in London we had our own stand  - with the strapline ‘It’s a whole world of design out there’ – showcasing our work in promoting and developing design around the world.

Our partnership is now being strengthened still further  this year at 100% Moscow in March where we are running a seminar programme, staging an exhibition (Twinkle Twinkle) and launching the International Young Design Entreprenuer of the year Award.

Building on the success of last year’s luxury workshop, Art, Architecture & Design is organising the seminar programme for 100% Design Moscow. British design attracts a great deal of interest in Russia and to honour this, three of our leading design talents  - Tom Dixon, Tricia Guild and Thomas Heatherwick  - will speak about their careers, inspirations and obsessions in a series of talks entitled ‘My Brilliant Career’. Each session is complemented by a talk by one of Russia’s design stars, interior designer Andrey Dmitriev, Sergey Smirnov of Smirnov Design and Vladimir Samojlov and Alexander Matveev of Designet.ru

Vladimir Samojlov, and Alexander Matveev  and Sergey Smirnov will take part in a seminar and discussion on the relationship between design, manufacture and retail, alongside London-based design entrepreneur Thorsten van Elten and Mark Bond, Product Manager for British DIY and domestic products retailer Homebase.

Our second design workshop is being led by Mark Bond, designer Harry Richardson of Committee and Jane Withers, design writer and consultant to Wedgwood. They will set a group of young Russian designers the task of conceiving brand new souvenirs for Moscow that are both culturally significant, genuinely desirable and beautifully designed. The themes to be covered in their rapid-fire two and a half day workshop include the relationship between tourism, cultural production and craft; the significance of where tourist souvenirs are made and sold; the importance of personal commemoration and the role of design in the production and consumption of souvenirs. The results will be presented to the public in our final seminar at 100% Design.
