The University of East Anglia provides annually over £500,000 through the International Scholarship Fund (ISF) - managed by the International Office. The course starts each year in January. Typically the scholarships cover fees and living expenses. The first month is usually spent in the home country starting from 6 January working on specific assignments and contributing to distance learning-based activities. Starting from 9 February studies continue in Glasgow until the end of the course. It is expected that students will return to their home country and immediately apply their knowledge within the ICT sector. In November 2003 the Prime Minister announced a new science scheme, the Dorothy Hodgkin Awards, to fund over 100 scholars from around the world to undertake research in UK universities. It will bring high quality students to top UK universities to study science and to improve quality of life around the world.
The Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards will be fully funded and open to quality students from the fields of science, engineering, medicine, social sciences and technology to study for PhDs in UK institutions with the highest rated research records.
The UK Government will provide the funding. The following companies are also contributing to the scheme: Hutchinson Whampoa, Scottish Power, and Vodafone.
