Teaching curricular subjects in English, also known as Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), is becoming more and more popular and requires a change in teachers’ skills set. This course helps teachers understand CLIL methodology and apply good practice in the classroom.
The course helps teachers develop practical skills to introduce functional language, evaluate language challenges and adapt classroom tasks and forms of assessment. This will help their students understand the topics in the second language.
The course is for primary and secondary school teachers who teach curricular subjects in English. Participants should have a minimum Council of Europe Framework (CEF) B1 level of English proficiency.
We recommend the course for teachers, who are at the developing stage of the British Council's Continuing Professional Development Framework, teachers who have more then two years' classroom experience and who need to extend their skills and knowledge.
This course provides practical methods to help content teachers meet their objectives and effectively support their learners in a second language. It also helps English language teachers to become more specialised in bilingual education and to support other teachers in team teaching or to teach other subjects themselves.
The course is a series of 20 workshops providing practical classroom strategies. Each workshop (online) lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Teachers learn to:
break down their instructions |
evaluate language challenges in the classroom |
use model language |
develop enquiry-based learning |
increase communication in English |
improve assessment methods and feedback. |
There are two components that are assessed: one 500-word essay and one lesson plan with rationale. These provide assessment of participants who have taken the whole course.
Applicants interested in the course must fill in the application form (MS Word 109 KB) and send it by email to Lilit Bekaryan .
