Fashion road: DIALOGUE ACROSS BORDERS
Fashion Road Exhibition in Armenia

The collection by ten European and Armenian artist-designers started its route from Yerevan, Armenia. It was exhibited in the Cafesjian Center for the Arts and attracted hundreds of visitors, who enjoyed an opportunity to evaluate the works produced by the collaboration of    Armenian and European designers.

The project designers drew their inspiration from diverse but complementary sources, such as Parajanov's films, role of a woman in the modern society, social challenges, nature's beauties, national costumes, urban rapid rhythm, clerical vestments and church architecture.

The exhibition program also included a seminar on "Exhibition design" for Armenian students and curators, conducted by Tony Charalambous, the curator of the exhibition. The project designers ran a master class for fellow designers during which they developed their own variations of the garments. The exhibition lasted from February 1- 20, 2012 and moved to "ART EXPO" hosted by the Ministry of Culture. Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the Republic, was the first visitor to the exhibition.

After the conclusion of "ART EXPO" the collection arrived in Gyumri on International Women's Day. From 8 to 14 March, Gyumri residents enjoyed an opportunity to study and evaluate the collection of 20 clothes, exhibited at the Style Gallery.

Aram Nikolyan and Lusine Kostanyan, participant designers of the program, had a meeting with the Academy of Fine Arts in Gyumri sharing the history of the collection with them.

The next destination of the “Fashion Road: Dialogue across Borders” collection was Vanadzor City Community Museum of Fine Arts.

Papag Aloyan, head of Vanadzor City Community Museum of Fine Arts, noted the special charm the models gave to the gallery when exhibited along with paintings.

The collection was next exhibited in Dilijan Geology Museum-Gallery creating a unique opportunity for cross-cultural interaction in the hall replenished with canvases by famous Armenian and foreign painters.

Dilijan pastor visited the exhibition and was glad to note that it was the ecclesiastical theme that inspired the designers from Armenia and Romania.

Fr Shavarsh mentioned that it was gratifying to see how the priest vestments and the church architecture had become a source of inspiration and are exposed to so many people.

Armen Santrosyan, Dilijan Mayor, believes that the exhibitions, organized by the British Council greatly contribute to making the cultural life in the city more active and colorful.
