Contemporary UK drama is more vibrant than ever before. We work across all forms of drama – from live art and physical/visual theatre to classic and text-based drama. We work with our overseas colleagues and partners to plan, resource, deliver and evaluate high-impact arts projects involving professional artists and organisations from the UK and Armenia. We aim to promote new images of the UK, to establish long-term partnerships and to attract younger audiences. A good example is Interactive Theatre, that had a huge impact in Armenia.
The goal of forum theatre is to make people more aware of some problems that they may have not considered previously. Forum theatre scenarios are designed to stimulate audience participation through discussion, interactive role-playing and shared experiences. Usually in a forum scene, some characters (“the oppressors”) remain the same, while the other characters in the scene (“the oppressed”) will be replaced by audience members who try different approaches at preventing or stopping the violence as it is happening. Audience members are allowed to attempt their solutions until they feel satisfied they have done everything they have wanted to do. Several audience members can replace the same character if they desire. After the forum scene has been worked through, discussion can take place about the scene’s issue(s).
The once happy and carefree family finds itself face to face with a serious problem. Hard times, social change and widespread unemployment force the three children to abandon their Mother and leave their country in search of jobs. Yet, the much-dreamed about United States with its promises for a comfortable life does not received the children with wide-open arms. In the meantime, the Mother, expecting good news from her children, is forced to receive unexpected guests who, using various well-thought means, do not spare efforts to take away Mother’s belongings and property.
