The Argentine participant in the Road to Davos 2008 has been selected to go to Davos!
Watch the video of the interview with CNN International.
The Road to Davos gathered 60 young people from around the world in Guilford, 14-19 January 2008. The 16-to-19 year-old activists discussed global issues that are of concern to the youth of today’s world: the impact of climate change, intercultural conflict and radicalisation, disease and poverty, among others.
A group of six was selected by their peers to represent them at the 2008 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, 23-27 January, where they had the opportunity to challenge the world leaders. They were the youngest ever delegates.
Their session, Future Shifts: The Voice of the Next Generation, on Thursday 24 January was moderated by Rebecca Anderson, CNN International, and joined by acclaimed British actress Emma Thompson and former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Sadako Ogata. Juan Nascimbene is the only Latin American in the group. He is 16 years old and finishing secondary school, where he is class representative at the Student Council. Juan has done community service in the province of Entre Ríos and in the communities of Delta and Chacabuco from the province of Buenos Aires, mainly working meeting local children’s needs.
This is how he sees himself: "I am not a conformist, I intend to create a better society and to promote activism in all youth, because if we desire a change, as small as it may seem, we must be the ones to propel it. What I really hope to achieve with my activism is making people happier, try to share moments with them, and to create a social consciousness that will allow a positive transformation of society itself with everybody’s participation."
