CLIMATE CHAMPIONS 2011
COP 17, Durban, South Africa
Argentine and Uruguayan Climate Champions at COP 17 - November/December 2011.
Climate Generation 2011
Twelve new climate champions shared experiences, received training and, most importantly, are now part of the British Council Climate Generation programme.

Argentina´s network of climate champions is now larger than before: twelve new climate champions met for the first time in Buenos Aires on a two and a half day training event held in Hotel Castelar on 7, 8 and 9 July. The training was co-delivered by British Council staff and partner organisation, Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina.

On Thursday 7 July we were all very anxious to meet the new champions and learn more about their projects and plans to combat climate change. The group was amazing. Not only because their projects are innovative and creative but also because the new champions started networking among themselves and showed true interest from the very beginning.

The first day we spoke about Leadership and each climate champion presented their project with the Pecha Kucha format. The projects vary from developing an internet site with recycling information for the country, to organising a Green Film Festival, to producing energy out of algae among many others!

In the evening, the British Council organised a cocktail at the British Ambassador´s residence where champions had the opportunity to meet with potential future sponsors and mentors.

On Friday 8 July we continued working on Leadership and Project Management and had two guest speakers: a journalist who works at national newspaper Clarin who gave them tips on how to sell their projects to the press and another guest who spoke about fundraising and how to identify organisations interested in their projects. In the evening we celebrated the end of the second journey at a Historical Restaurant in San Telmo.

On the last day, champions learned more about social media and the many ways they have to publicise their projects and interact with other climate champions in the network.

This was the beginning of what, we hope, will be a year full of opportunities and challenges for our new Climate Champions. If you would like to learn more about the champions presentations or about any aspect of the project please contact Mariana Agnolin, project manager Argentina.
