IELTS - International English Language Test

WHAT IS IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) was introduced in 1990. The test is jointly assessed and run by the British Council, Cambridge ESOL and IDP of Australia.

WHY TAKE IELTS?
IELTS is widely accepted as a proof of English language ability by educational institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, the European Union and other countries.

IELTS is also required for emigration to Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Candidates are tested in four areas: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

The listening and speaking modules are the same for everyone, but the choice of reading and writing modules is determined by the purpose for taking IELTS.

If you plan to do academic study, it is recommend that you take the Academic modules.

If you are applying for non-academic training or emigration you normally need to take the General Training modules.
