UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship Scheme 2010-2011

The Chevening Scholarship Scheme offers the chance for successful candidates to undertake fully-funded study at a university in the United Kingdom.  It is aimed at highly motivated, extremely capable individuals who have already made an impact in their chosen career.  It is funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and administered by the British Council.

Applications for the Chevening Scholarship scheme for the academic year 2010-2011 are now being accepted (opening and closing dates are shown below).  Candidates are invited to apply for a 12-month full-time Masters degree at a UK university.  

Competition for Chevening scholarships is strong. A typical successful applicant would be:

Established in a career which is key to Iraq’s economic, social or political development, with a track record of excellence and achievement, and the prospect of becoming a leader in his/her chosen field.
Committed to return to their country and contribute to the socio-economic development of their country, implementing the new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK
A graduate with proven academic skills
Someone with three or more years’ work experience
Able to show at interview that they possess the personal qualities to benefit from and scholarship
Someone with very good written and spoken English skills. Most UK higher education institutions require a minimum 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for admission onto postgraduate courses

Please note that IELTS is not a prerequisite to apply for this Scholarship, as Successful candidates who pass the interview stage will be invited to perform IELTS test at British Council.

We aim wherever possible for an equal number of female and male scholars.

The application procedure and selection of scholars is open and transparent.

How to apply?
We are now accepting applications for the Chevening Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2010/2011. Applications can be made ONLY online using the Chevening e-form. The application forms used in the previous years will not be valid anymore.

Applications should be submitted from 1 September 2009 and no later than 15 October 2009. No applications will be accepted after this date.

Important note: application forms from current FCO staff members' and those that have left the employment within the last two years at FCO departments, will not be considered.
