Entrepreneur for One Day

British Council and its partners support young entrepreneurs in Albania and offers basic business skills to a wider audience through nation-wide broadcasting.

Starting in August 2007 and running for six weeks in a raw the nation wide TV station Top Channel have been broadcasting the newly produced programme “Entrepreneur for One Day”. This is an initiative developed by Business Without Border Albania with the support of the British Council which aims at encouraging and supporting young peoples entrepreneurial initiatives as well as delivering skills to a wide audience of young people in country.

The programme was designed around six young people selected through a competition on Innovative Business Ideas. They would have the opportunity for one day to put into practice their entrepreneurial plans. Six established businesses will host the young people for one day not only to let them practice their skills but to offer them and the wider audience some basic information on how to start.

The initiative has brought together other partners working in the same field such as Junior Achievement Albania and Mjaft Foundation. Junior Achievement Albania has provided the content for six themes (Start-up Costs, Taxes and Legislation, Marketing, Sales and Accounting, Customer Care, Skills Required). The learning experience is the core part of the programme and British Council is working with all the partners to use this opportunity to reach out to a wider audience and to enable learning provision in a creative way. Mjaft Foundation will offer a grant to cover start up costs of the winner’s new businesses.

Business Without Border is an NGO established through a British Council regional project (UK-SEE Forum) which is now making its own way to support young business minded people in Albania by working with a number of partners and donors.
