Chevening Scholarship Applicants
We welcome all Chevening Scholarship applicants seeking to take an IELTS test to demonstrate their English language ability. IELTS is the world's most popular English Language test and is your route to study in the UK. We urge you to prepare well and book early to ensure that you receive the score you require. You will receive your results within 13 days. Information on how to book and prepare for IELTS including free practice materials are available on the TakeIELTS website.

What are the costs and how do i register?
IELTS test ZMK 1,100,000
Study Pack (available for collection after payment is made) ZMK 175,000

Enter your personal data into the candidates’ on-line database in the registration system. Please bear in mind that sessions will not be visible in the system after the registration deadline. Once your application has been submitted, you cannot go back to change your details.
Send two recent colour photographs (without glasses), a clearly legible copy of your valid ID to arrive on the 5th day after registering for the test at the latest. The photographs should be legibly signed with the name and surname of the candidate as well as the test date.
If you would like a Study Pack to help you prepare for the IELTS test, you should pay an extra ZMK 175 000 this is up to 31 December 2012 from 1 January 2013 pay ZMW 175 with your test fee.
Transfer the required fee of ZMK 1,100,000 (exam only) or ZMK 1,275,000 (with study pack) this will be up to 31 December 2012 and from 1 January 2013 pay ZMW 1,100 (exam only) or ZMW 1,275 (with study pack) according to the instructions given in the registration system immediately after registering for the test.
You will receive confirmation of your IELTS exam entry within 7 working days of payment.

Completing the British Council Deposit Slip

In order to assist us in identifying your payment, it is important that you use the correct test code on the Deposit Slip. These test codes are only to be used for the deposit slips.

To be taken in April, May or June E201
To be taken in July, August or September E202
To be taken in October, November or December E203
To be taken in January, February or March.   E204

The test code should then be followed by your Surname, then First Name.

The deposit slip will not be accepted by Barclays without this information.

You need to submit your completed application, deposit slip and payment to Barclays. The British Council will collect your application form directly from Barclays.

When and where can I take my test?

IELTS registration

Register for your IELTS test by visting the 'Take IELTS' wesbite. Select your location/area and find suitable tet dates.

How do I prepare for my test?

We can help you prepare for your test in three ways:

1. Please click on the 'prepare for your test' link to the left to find information about ‘Road to IELTS’ - an exclusive online offer to British Council candidates.
2. IELTS study pack, containing a CD-ROM, handbook, test information, and practice papers. Registration form is included in the information pack.
3. Do you want to practice your English vocabulary? British Council IELTS Word Power is a free vocabulary practice app for IELTS test takers. Download IELTS Word Power or follow these instructions.
What will happen before the test?
We will confirm your test date by e-mail within ten days of receiving your application form, copy of your ID or passport and proof of payment.
Unfortunately we cannot reserve places before you have paid.
What should I take to the test?
Proof of your identity which is the same as the identity information you provided on your application form. It must contain a number, a signature, a date of birth and a photograph.
If you are taking the test in another country you also need to bring your passport.
The pens, pencils and erasers which you need for the test. Bring an accurate watch along with you too so that you can keep track of the time.

Please note: If you do not have the correct identity information you will not be able to take the test. Make sure you arrive on time so that you have enough time to settle before the start of the test.

When will I receive my results?

Results certificates are posted by registered mail 13 days after the main test date.

Unfortunately results cannot be given over the phone, by fax or e-mail, and we are only allowed to give ONE certificate to each student. Candidates can however request to pick up their results in person instead of receiving them by post. This request can be made on the date of the test and we will ask you to add your name to our collection list and please bring along your ID.
