‘Shaping our Future’ conference, 26 & 27 March 2013 in Lusaka, provided opportunities for delegates from the public, private, academic, donor, NGO and community development sectors (Zambia’s current and emerging leaders), to participate in discussion, debate and action planning on a range of issues that have an impact on the future prosperity and development of Zambia, with a specific focus on job creation, youth development and employability. These included, among others, improving education access and employability, growing SME innovation and finance, leveraging public-private partnerships, regenerative agriculture, job creation through a green economy, impact and benefits of e-learning.
The conference provided a platform for exchanging ideas and knowledge. Post conference, the established steering group and thematic working groups will encourage active participation in contributing to an enabling environment which can support policy development. The conference report will be published on the British Council website and sent to all stakeholders.
The British Council and the British High Commission are delighted to have been able to follow up on last year’s successful inaugural event, developing a network of future leaders who will be able to contribute positively, using resources and opportunities within Zambia and the region for the continued sustainable development of the country.
