What courses can I take?

We have a wide range of courses for adults. We make improving your English language and communication skills enjoyable. We have many specialist skills courses and we also offer custom-made packages designed to meet specific training needs to organisations.

Adult Courses

We offer 50 hour courses. Classes are held 2 days a week for 2.5 hours each.

Our General English courses develop all four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and give you a thorough understanding of grammar. Our practical, hands-on approach helps you use the language from the very first day. After your placement test, we advise you on the best course for your level. Below are the different levels we offer.

Beginner level
You will have had little contact with English but want to take the brave step of learning this powerful international language. We will give you a good start by teaching you useful vocabulary and grammar.
Elementary level
You will know some basic grammar and words but cannot yet communicate many of your ideas. You will study a range of everyday English social expressions you can use for making conversation, shopping, on the telephone, at the airport and checking into a hotel.
Pre-Intermediate level
You will already be able to describe simple ideas and things around you. Now, you can widen your vocabulary and develop your grammar. You will discover everyday English, such as social expressions and describing feelings.
Intermediate level
You will now have confidence to express yourself in English but want to make fewer mistakes and possess a wider range of vocabulary. This level will help you to develop your range of everyday English social expressions (informal language) for use when giving opinions, making requests and offers, expressing interest and surprise, and being polite. You will review grammar from previous levels and explore a range of other grammar. You will also develop your understanding of vocabulary by looking at word formation, adjectives, synonyms, idioms, and compound nouns.
Upper Intermediate level
You will be on the way to becoming a confident user of English. At this level you will begin to express more complex thoughts than before and pronounce using features of connected speech. You will use a range of everyday English social expressions for everyday English: cross-cultural customs, issues on sport, and life and social ceremonies.
Business Skills
This course covers key aspects of business communication; effective communication, business correspondence, report writing and presentation skills. You will develop the core face to face communication skills necessary to make things happen. It will teach you the standard layout necessary for writing business letters, as well as the less formal style of emails and memos. It will help you write reports that get the results you want, by developing the skills necessary to plan, structure and write reports and learning how to avoid common errors. It will enable you to create presentations that achieve your objective, by giving you the skills to design and deliver presentations that have an impact.

IELTS Exam Preparation Course

We offer a 5 hour course. Classes are held on a Saturday once a month.

IELTS Prep.
Maybe your English is good enough, but how are your exam skills? You will learn techniques to help improve your chances of getting a better result in IELTS. For example, you might be able to understand everything you read in English, but in the exam you have to read three texts in a very limited time. We can show you ways to find the answers quickly without having to read the texts in detail. Similarly in the listening test, we can help you to pick out the answers without needing to understand every word. In writing, we can give you insights into what the examiners are looking for in a good answer, so that you can come to the exam better prepared to get the result you deserve.
