Chevening Scholarship Applicants
We welcome all Chevening Scholarship applicants seeking to take an IELTS test to demonstrate their English language ability. IELTS is the world's most popular English Language test and is your route to study in the UK. We urge you to prepare well and book early to ensure that you receive the score you require. You will receive your results within 13 days. Information on how to book and prepare for IELTS including free practice materials are available on the TakeIELTS website.

What are the costs?
Booking for the IELTS test only TZS 350,000
Ordering the specimen pack only TZS 55,000
IELTS workshop TZS 75,000

If you require an extra certificate one month after the test date, the fee is TZS 25,000 + courier fees.

How do I pay?
The fee is paid in cash or by cheque at the information desk (OSS). You are advised to telephone us  to check our exchange rate for the current month before coming in to pay.
When and where can I take my test?

IELTS registration

Register for your IELTS test by visting the 'Take IELTS' wesbite. Select your location/area and find suitable tet dates.

How do I prepare for my test?

We can help you prepare for your test in the following ways:

1. You can familiarise yourself with the IELTS test by purchasing the specimen pack which contains a sample test and a listening CD.
2. Registered candidates can take advantage of the wide range of resources held in our Self Access Centre free of charge from the dates of payment (date on receipt).
3. You can attend one of the monthly IELTS Preparation workshops held at the British Council Tanzania. These workshops last for 5 hours and cover test techniques and structure, giving you a head start on the format and content of the IELTS test and how to prepare yourself more effectively. Contact the British Council Tanzania for details of dates and course fees.
4. Please click on the 'prepare for your test' link to the left to find information about ‘Road to IELTS’ - an exclusive online offer to British Council candidates.
5. Do you want to practice your English vocabulary? British Council IELTS Word Power is a free vocabulary practice app for IELTS test takers. Download IELTS Word Power or follow these instructions.
What will happen before the test?
Candidates will receive a confirmation letter on registration at the information desk.
What should I take to the test?
Proof of your identity which for our centre is a valid passport.
The pens, pencils and erasers which you need for the test.
Bring an accurate watch along with you so you can keep track of the time.

Please note: If you do not have the correct identity information you will not be able to take the test. Make sure you arrive on time so that you have enough time to get comfortable.

When will I receive my results?

We will issue your certificate two weeks after your test.

The British Council Tanzania offers an Online Results service. Candidates are able to access their results online two weeks after the test date. Unfortunately results cannot be given over the phone, by fax or e-mail, and we are only allowed to give one certificate to each student.

Candidates residing in Dar es Salaam region will be required to pick up their certificates in person instead of receiving them by post unless they request us to send them via post. Candidates residing outside Dar es Salaam region will have their certificates sent by post.

In addition to the certificate given to the candidate, candidates can request on their application forms (Section 24), that up to 5 copies of the results be sent to receiving institutions (academic institutions ONLY). These will be sent at no extra charge but by normal post. If you wish to send by express mail you will be responsible for the charges.

refund, cancellation and re-marking policies?

Test Date Transfer Policy
You may transfer test dates if you notify us more than five weeks before the original test. If the request for a transfer is made within the five week period, the transfer will be treated as a cancellation and you will receive no refund.

Refunds
1. All examination fees paid are non refundable. Refunds will not be issued for incorrect choice of version. We will only consider applications for refunds made on the following grounds:
•Medical – hospital admission or serious injury
•Loss or bereavement – death of parents, guardian, brother/sister or child
•Hardship/trauma – victim of crime, victim of traffic accident
•Military service

2. Applications for refund must be made within 14 days of payment or 7 days before the Test Date, whichever is the earliest and applications should be addressed to the Examinations Coordinator.

3. Refund Applications shall attract a 25% administration fee.

4. Applications for refund must be made in writing and the following documentation attached:
•Refund Application Form (Available from British Council)
•Original bank deposit slip
•Identification
•Other Supporting Documentation (medical certificate, death certificate etc)
