What will happen before the test?
Candidates will receive notification/confirmation either by e-mail, sms or telephone one week before the test date at the latest. Please check your e-mail regularly before your chosen test date! If you have not received confirmation one week before the expected test date, please contact the British Council office where you registered. Test dates can be deferred or transferred at five weeks notice under the following circumstances: serious illness, bereavement, hardship/trauma, and military service.
What should I take to the test?
Proof of your identity (international passport) which is the same as the identity information you provided on your application form.
Please note: If you do not have the correct identity document you will not be able to take the test

Make sure you arrive on time so that you have enough time to get comfortable.

When will I receive my results?

Your results will be available online 13 days after your test date. View them here.

You may collect your results in person or send someone to collect your results 13 days after the main test date. You must bring along your valid passport and an authorisation letter.

Your results will be available at the Lagos Centre but you can also arrange for your results to be collected from the Abuja, Kano or Port Harcourt Centres if you submit a request. Please note that we do not automatically mail the IELTS Test Report Form (TRF), and if you wish to receive your results by mail, please apply through the reception of the British Council and pay the relevant fee.

Please note:
Your test results cannot be given to you over the telephone, via e-mail, by fax or letter.
Candidates will receive only one original Test Report Form. This is a valuable document and due care needs to be taken to keep it safe. The form cannot be replaced, photocopied or verified at any point in time.
Test results will be sent directly to universities/institutions or immigration authorities according to the addresses supplied by you on your IELTS test application form.
Each receiving university/organisation or immigration authority specifies their own requirements, so in each case you will need to check the required IELTS score yourself.
The IELTS test result is valid for two years only. Universities/organisations may have their own rules regarding the period of validity, so you need to check in each case. In the case of an address change, please contact the British Council immediately. Your identity needs confirmed using an acceptable for of identification (international passport).
If you need to request extra copies of your results (from one month to two years after your test) you will be asked to fill out an application form and pay a mailing charge (administrative fees) plus the relevant country courier charges.
In addition to the certificate given to the candidate, candidates can request on their application forms (Section 24), that up to five copies of the results be sent to receiving institutions. Receiving institutions are local academic institutions (e.g. universities) and overseas institutions not registered to view candidate results online. Registered institutions only receive results online; here is a list of registered institutions. Unfortunately we cannot send to local institutions or departments (e.g. immigration agents).
