The British Council is the UK's leading international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We work in more than 100 countries with over 10,000 leaders and decision-makers each year. The British Council is fairly new in Mozambique; it has been operating in the capital city, Maputo since 1989. Given the setting of Mozambique's growing economy, our work in this country is extremely challenging. Mozambique has 23 million inhabitants of which almost 10% are concentrated in the capital city - Maputo. There is visible development in the country and integration in important political, economic and trading regions such as SADC and the Commonwealth has also taken place.

This development and openness leads to an increasing number of educated, aspiring and ambitious people in Mozambique. The potential for the British Council's reach is therefore enormous.

English online: We offer three free websites to help you improve your English: LearnEnglish, LearnEnglishKids, and TeachingEnglish.
Education and Society
International Inspiration: the London 2012 Olympics legacy project that uses the power of sport to enrich the lives of millions of children and young people of all abilities.
Scholarships: We administer various UK scholarships on behalf of organisations such as Delphe.
DelPHE: The Delphe programme was a successful project which was implemented in several countries in the region. It ended in March 2013 and DfiD gave a very good rating. As the programme is now closed, there has been a selection of projects to represent each of the Millennium Development Goals. The selected case studies are from Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Sudan. The cases show how much can be achieved with a comparatively small amount of funding, partners that are well-matched and lots of enthusiasm and support from staff and students at the institutions who took part in DelPHE to make their projects work. Please view the DelPHE case studies document.
