If you are planning to study, live or work abroad, you will need to take an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Exam.

In Mauritius we run IELTS Exams regularly and preparation courses (workshops) to help you prepare for the exam. Read on to find out how to register, what it costs and when the exams and workshops take place.

How can I register?
OPTION 1
Step1: Apply online
Step2: Fax to +230 454 9553 or e-mail general.enquiries@mu.britishcouncil.org the following documentation to our Customer Services team:
a copy of your ID or passport
proof of payment as part of the online or manual application process
two passport sized photographs. (These need to be personally dropped of at our office).

OPTION 2
Step1: Download and complete the application form

Please note: Your Exam seat is not secured until payment is received.

How do I pay?
You can pay for your exam in three ways: 
pay in cash at our office
pay by office cheque (i.e. bank guaranteed cheques) drawn to British Council
pay by bank transfer (bank details will be given on request)
pay by credit card at the counter.
When can I write my exam?

When can I attend an IELTS workshop?
Please note that our workshops are currently finished until further notice.
When will I get my results?

Results are obtained 13 days after the exam date. Unfortunately results can not be given over the phone, by fax or e-mail. You must collect your Test Report Form (TRF) in person along with a form of identification. In the event that a different person must collect your results, please provide us with a signed authorisation note.

In addition to the certificate given to the candidate, candidates can request on their application forms (Section 24), that up to 5 copies of the results be sent to receiving institutions. Receiving institutions are local academic institutions (e.g. universities) and overseas institutions not registered to view candidate results online. Registered institutions only receive results online; here is a list of registered institutions.

In addition to the actual Test Report Form that will be posted to you, you can now view your results online. Click here to see your results.

What will happen before the Exam?
On receipt of your application our exams team will write to you to confirm your exam date, speaking and writing exam schedules as well as the venue details. The confirmation letter is sent through registered post no later than 10 days prior to your exam date. Non-Mauritian residents will receive a scanned copy of the letter through e-mail.
How do I prepare for the exam?

We can help you prepare for your exam in two ways:

1. Purchase an IELTS study pack, containing a CD-ROM, handbook, exam information, and practice papers.

2. You can also join one of our Preparation Courses (Workshops) to help you achieve the best results.

What should I take to the exam?
Proof of your identity which is the same as the identity information you provided on your application form.

Please note: Make sure you arrive on time so that you have enough time to get comfortable. You should arrive by 0815. We will provide you with a pencil and an eraser. Mobile phones or bags are not allowed in the exam room.

Where can I write my exam?

You will be notified in advance of the venue where you are to take your IELTS Exam.
