Words and Pictures come alive

Creative Entrepreneurs is a British Council project in partnership with artists, cultural leaders and creative entrepreneurs across East and West Africa. This is a three year project combining training, mentoring, networking and secondments across the Creative Industries. Creative Entreprenuers is the umbrella project of youth development through culture that will sit above other existing projects, such as WaPi and the Young Creative Entrepreneurs' Awards.

Through the Creative Entrepreneurs' Programme, young African entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35 will have a forum to explore and foster their own freedom of expression and to develop their skills and business prospects in the Creative Industries (principally, music, design, fashion, film, broadcasting, visual arts, publishing and the performing arts).

The project uses innovative approaches to networking to encourage arts and cultural leaders from different countries and different art forms to talk together, learn from each other and develop new partnerships for effective cross-border working.

What’s WaPi?
WAPI (Words and Pictures) is a forum for visual and verbal artists from the underground. The underground in Ghana and other countries in the region is a hotbed of activity and creativity.

We take the underground to mean the upcoming, the undiscovered, those who, by design or default, are not part of the mainstream.

What do we want to achieve?
The Creative Entrepreneurs' Programme's vision is to be Africa's most respected and effective scheme for developing aspiring creative entrepreneurs.  We want to help the region’s artists and cultural leaders to develop the networks and skills they need to build a better society, support economic growth and enrich the cultural life of Africa and its surrounding countries.

WAPI brings undiscovered talent to the fore for the discerning public through a regular (monthly) WAPI programme. WAPI also aspires to become a talent-spotting platform - the place where tomorrows best acts and today’s best-kept secrets are identified and enjoyed.

Are you passionate about art? Then here’s your chance. It’s hot. It’s fresh and reloaded.

WAPI happens at British Council every other month. If you are into art, graffiti, painting, live band performances, rap, RNB, poetry, Jazz, Photography, etc.
